Dr Melrose Stewart MBE was born in Jamaica in 1954, and made her way to the UK in 1965 where she pursued her passion for physiotherapy by obtaining her qualification as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the prestigious Bristol Royal Infirmary School of Physiotherapy in 1975.


After her studies, she embarked on a successful career as a lecturer at the University of Birmingham, where she dedicated many years of her life imparting knowledge to aspiring physiotherapists. Today, she holds the esteemed position of an Honorary Lecturer at the university, a testament to her expertise and contributions to the field.



Dr Stewart's commitment to promoting equality and justice is evident through her pivotal role in establishing the first AHP BAME Network at the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy). Her tireless efforts in advocating for fairness and inclusivity have spanned over the years, leaving a lasting impact on the profession.


In addition to her work in the field of physiotherapy, Dr Stewart has also demonstrated a keen interest in health promotion and the aging population. This led to her involvement as a featured expert in the highly acclaimed Channel 4 documentary 'Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds', which garnered multiple awards for its insightful exploration of intergenerational care.



Currently, Dr Melrose Stewart MBE serves as a panel member in His Majesty's Court and Tribunal Service, specifically focusing on Employment and Disability Appeals. Her expertise and experience make her a valuable asset in ensuring fair and just outcomes in these important legal proceedings.
