AFRICAN ARTS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTRE

The United Kingdom is a diverse nation that is home to a multitude of cultures, which have become deeply ingrained in society over the course of several centuries and waves of immigration. While some UK individuals are first-generation immigrants, the majority of the population in the African community are second, third, and even fourth generation. In order to cater to the needs of this vibrant community, an African Arts and Community resources centre was established in the St Paul's area of Bristol in 1974. This centre serves as a unique hub, providing invaluable services to the thousands of individuals of African and Caribbean descent residing in the area.

Despite the openness of the British curriculum to various forms of knowledge, ranging from early schooling to adolescence, it predominantly focuses on British culture and religion, which is to be expected. While the curriculum does touch upon broader aspects of related religions and cultures, it is unable to fully address the educational requirements of immigrants in terms of historical references and cultural aspects.
